The Mercury Report

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is nowadays a cheap replacement for sugar. More and more products replace safe and natural sugar to chemical refined corn syrup. HFCS might contain traces of mercury, mercury is a neurotoxin and could cause Alzheimer in the long run.

We live in a truly global food system. Our system typically is geared more toward producing lots of cheap calories, and then selling those calories to consumers, than it is toward meeting other goals like reducing fossil fuel use or producing food that is healthy.

Happy Mothers Day! We enjoyed speaking with all of our customers. The weather was cool and a bit windy. While setting up our booth we came across an older male squirrel. This squirrel decided to steal some food from our neighbor booth. Everyone was so very friendly and we thank our new returning customers. We noticed a lot of familiar faces.

Going Green?

Going Green?

Green is in! What does it mean to “go green”?

Every couple years or so we go through trends and fads. I am sure you remember the 60’s, everyone falling in love with nature all over again, something we seem to repeat. I do wonder when many people will understand we need nature in order to live. Is this green wave a flash of the 60’s or are we really trying to save our planet this time? My question is was it a trend for companies to sell products to consumers that would cause serious health problems? Certainly the research is available and budget for natural alternatives.

Rose Bowl Arts/Crafts-04/12/09

The weather on Sunday was beautiful. We met some very nice people and saw some familiar faces. Our returning customers picked up some of their favorite products and shared some laughs, and a story or two with us.  One encounter we had, a gentleman did not believe that we make our own products. He asked us; “What company are you guys selling for?” This is always a compliment for us!

It was such a beautiful day. The clouds were drifting high in the sky. This time around we saw some familiar faces. These were the faces of our returning customers. It looks like they cannot get enough of Opas Soap. We met a lot of people who were new to natural products. So we discussed and took various questions about commercial bar and liquid soaps, body washes and so on. After discussing, one gentleman mentioned his reason for his skin being so dry and itchy because of a body wash he has been using. He did not understand the different irritants in the ingredients of his body wash and he certainly did not understand why would companies put irritants in soap if it is not good for you.

Rose Bowl Arts/Crafts-02/08/09

O what a lovely day it turned out to be! It was, indeed, a day full of laughing, as we brought amusement to our customers. The weather, dark and cloudy, did not seem to affect us. Many customers were fascinated with our new laundry detergent, Soap Nuts. It made our hearts warm to see so many customers open to using a biodegradable laundry detergent that works.

Soap vs. Dove - We lose?

Doves new ad campaign makes soap users uncertain of soap scum.

First of all, don't PANIC.

Second, soap scum is formed by mineral in tap water combined with soap. With hard water you have more soap scum than with soft water. If water is "hard" it mainly contains chlorides, sulphates, phosphates and bicarbonates.

Sponge & Loofahs

Sponge & Loofahs

When picking your yellow, grass or wool sponges, you will have a choice of cuts or forms. Forms are a complete, un-cut sponge.

This means that the sponge will have a flat bottom where it was cut from the ocean floor, but otherwise will be perfectly round. Cuts are when a larger sponge has been cut into pieces. Usually cuts will have two flat sides but a round top.

For everyday use, cuts are fine. If you wish to proudly display your sponge as decoration, we recommend a form.
