About Opas Soap

Opas Soap was founded in 2007 by Mercedes & Thomas, a very happy go-lucky couple with a love for nature, history, our animals, and our earth.

We would like to offer the following:

• Bring more awareness towards preventing serious diseases (taking preventative care, lifestyle change, habits etc..)
• Enhance the quality of life ( in certain cases of ailments including depression, insomnia, compromised immune systems etc..)
• Create more awareness on environmental issues

Antique and Vintage recipes along with family recipes from the Naturalism era (1880's - 1940's) have been revamped with a modern approach. Along with original recipes from the Renaissance and Reformation era dated (1500-1600)

We are life-long students and enjoy sharing information we think is handy or valuable to our customers and of course anyone who is open to learning. Throughout our website we touch the subjects about toxins, chemicals, synthetic ingredients, results and consequences of using chemicals, benefits of aromatherapy, herbal remedies, tips on use of natural products, and history facts. The human species shares a connection with nature. Plants, essential oils, flowers, and herbs have a substantial relationship with the human body. There is much research and studies backing this claim as our forefathers did most of the experimenting. Studies have shown natural essences have the ability to bring the body into a healthy balanced state again. 

We do not compete, we inform. 
The Our attempt to help enlighten the uninformed and general public will serve as a purpose to bring about awareness on the current environmental issues we face as a nation. By continuous reduction in dependence of synthetic materials will then we restore the natural balance of nature and mankind. We encourage all to spend some time with nature. Without nature life cannot exist for our species.

Our (Opa) grandfather passed away in 2007. At the time of his passing we were in Hawaii. You could imagine we were very sad to hear he has passed especially that we were scheduled to fly and visit him 2 weeks later.

The day carried on and we purchased a natural bar of soap in a natural food store in Hilo. After using the bar of soap we asked out selves; "How could such a small bar of soap offer so much comfort to us?" From this day on, we'll make soap for everyone!

Better yet, we'll make high quality affordable health and skin-care products for everyone!

Call us vegetarians or health-conscious but we are very fortunate to be able to use our own products and know we are not harming our skin, our animals, or our environment. Mercedes enjoys gardening and being a blast from the past. Thomas likes photographing squirrels and eating pasta. Yes, we are a little quirky but that is okay.

We are always personally concerned with the quality of foods we eat, and the quality of products we use on our skin. We do not think its fair to make a natural product and charge expensive prices for it but I see it is very common to do so. Personally I wouldn't pay for it but we have come to realize most people are programed to think if a product is expensive it must be "high quality" and well worth it. 

If you do not mind we are changing that cliche and guarantee everything here is high quality but without the "high prices".

Our achievement of poisoning ourselves and our environment is clear. Instead, let's get rid of chemicals around us. They don't have any benefits for us nor do they have any benefits for the species we share this earth with. The better care we take of ourselves, the less health care costs we have because we are taking our own prevention. It's heart breaking to meet people and listen to their stories about the skin allergies and autism in their family. Although the percentage of exposure to Mercury through every day foods and medications we eat and take keeps increasing. Also Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, the cause for many skin allergies, is still a very popular ingredient in shampoos and soaps. 

What's the catch?
There is no catch. I know it is hard to believe but we care about what you are putting onto your skin. It is hard to maintain healthy skin especially in our society. We eat and breathe toxins on a daily basis and it doesn't seem like enough effort is being put towards fixing our heavy pollution or ridding the use of pesticides, herbicides, and hormones. Nowadays it's even harder to find a skin care company that can be trusted. Just because a product is labeled natural doesn't necessarily mean that it is truly natural. I know sometimes we are all bombarded and clearly overwhelmed by many marketing practices but take out time to read the ingredients. If there is an ingredient you are not sure about, conduct some research. This is your chance to gain knowledge about what ingredients you are putting onto your skin and what is being put into the environment.
